The name Soroptimist means “Best for Women.”
Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley (SIBBV) is a non-profit women’s Service Club and part of a Global Volunteer Organization. Our mission is to enhance the lives of women, girls and youth in our communities and throughout the world. Chartered in 1979, SIBBV and its members have dedicated their time, efforts, and programs towards this mission primarily focusing on our local communities’ needs, while also being mindful of the world beyond.
SIBBV places a high value on education. We do that by providing several scholarships for High School Graduates, participating in Soroptimists’ Live your Dream awards for women who are heads of household and returning to school, and organizing Dream It Be It programs for Middle and High School girls. We also provide thousands of dollars in Community Grants to a variety of local organizations and groups. See more details by visiting our “Programs” tab.
A few notable programs that SIBBV has developed that continue to this day, include a low cost before and after school program for children K thru 5th grade, now known as “Beyond the Bell” which began in 1989. For 30 years we have offered low or no cost Mammograms thru our local hospital. Historically, in the 1980’s we established and operated a Domestic Violence Program (DOVES,) that is now run by a separate Non-Profit organization. Our club also provided seed money to begin the local Meals on Wheels program and continues to be very involved in supporting many ongoing service related activities and programs.
SIBBV is well known for hosting fun and successful fundraisers such as our Holiday Auction in December each year, our Wine, Whiskey & Chocolate, and a variety of others. Our adopted hashtag motto is #HaveFunDoGood, for a good reason!
For over 40 years SIBBV has been a leader in Big Bear Valley. Come join us and see what we’re all about!
